The Wilderness

“Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her. There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope.” Hosea 2:14-15

I’ve been going to The Wilderness Fellowship since the summer of 2002. From that first visit, I fell in love with the beauty of God’s creation around this place, the staff, and the time spent alone with God in the log cabins nestled right in the woods. This past weekend’s visit was extra special because I got to share a place I love so much with my husband.

We stayed for 2 nights in the Bo cabin. Each prayer cabins has a theme. The theme of the Bo is the promises of God. Before the guests ever arrive, the staff prays for each one’s visit. Upon arrival, there is a specially made welcome card waiting for you with your name on it and a verse. One of the first things I always love to do when I get there is to look to see what verse has been chosen for me. The verse chosen for Jamie and me this time was Romans 15:5-6, “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We spent Saturday in the Word and in prayer. We shared our hearts and prayed for one another. The Lord spoke to us about being watchful in these days. We want to be prepared and ready for His return. We don’t know when this will happen but we believe the time is drawing close. We want our character to be found holy and blameless in His sight. We want His ways to be known on the earth and His salvation among the nations. We want to be faithful with all He has entrusted to us!

C.S. Lewis said the problem with Christians is that they don’t want enough. That is hard to imagine in our materialistic society. But Lewis wasn’t referring to cars, houses, clothes and the like. He was referring to heaven’s riches. We are half-hearted creatures when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in the slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

We ended our stay visiting with Charles and Ruth. They are full time prayer ministers who open up their home for prayer and counsel. They have ministered into my life over the past 8 years. They live out the Gospel. It’s been a privilege to have them share their life with me and now with both Jamie & me!

This is one of those places that, when I visit, feels like I’m coming home! I’ve tried to capture it’s beauty to share it, but it’s really one of those places you need to experience for yourself in order to really understand!

“Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes.” Psalms 17:7

“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
